Amid mounting pressure from the Congress as well as the Telugu Desam
Party to expedite action on their disqualification petitions, Speaker
Nadendla Manohar is likely to summon the ‘rebel' MLAs soon for a final
hearing before taking a decision.
It was the TDP which had first petitioned then Deputy Speaker to disqualify N. Prasanna Kumar Reddy (Kovvur) and Y.Balanagi Reddy (Mantralayam) for anti-party activities and for supporting YSR Congress president Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy.
The Congress Legislature Party too submitted a similar petition seeking disqualification of its four MLAs – Konda Surekha (Parkal), C. Adinarayana Reddy (Jammalamadugu), A. Amarnatha Reddy (Rajampet), and G. Srikanth Reddy (Rayachoti) – for openly sailing with Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy. Sources in the Legislature Secretariat indicated that these six MLAs would be summoned shortly and given a final chance to explain their stand.
Legal advice
The disqualification process may take some more time as the Legislature Secretariat would have to take legal advice before proceeding further.
When the six MLAs are summoned, the signatories to the petitions from the Congress Legislature Party and the Telugu Desam Legislature Party would also be asked to appear before the Speaker.
Party sources, however, maintain that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and the new PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana do not want to give any more time to the dissidents.
“Disciplinary action has to be initiated at the earliest on the four legislators. Because of the delay, the other loyalists are still attending the programmes organised by YSR Congress Party,” sources said.
They are citing the presence of at least a dozen Congress MLAs at the protest programme organised by the YSR Congress Party in all the district headquarters, to expedite the process of disqualification.
