The YSR Congress district in-charge, Mr Gouru Venkat Reddy, asked
farmers on Sunday to teach a lesson to the state government for ignoring
their welfare at a time when they faced serious problems like spurious
seeds and fertilisers. Addressing a press meet at his residence, Mr
Reddy demanded that the state government publish a white paper on the
conditions of farmers in the state.
“If government fails to do so, it should step down, owning moral responsibility for the suicides of farmers,” he said. He said that farmers and their family members were spending sleepless nights for seeds and fertilisers. People’s representatives were only interested in siphoning off funds to the extent of crores of rupees, and had blatantly ignored the welfare of farmers, he alleged. He said that it was late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy who rescued farmers by waiving loans to the extent of Rs 13,000 crore. He termed the Rythu Sadassu programmes as farces. Mr Reddy appealed to farmers to attend the Besiege to collectorate programme in large numbers and support Mr Jagan’s leadership.
