If the Kadapa MP and the YSR Congress chief has chosen Chittoor for
his dharna in front of its collectorate on Monday for the cause of
battered farmers, it is not without a reason. It has its own political
angularities.
As a first major road-show after giving a severe drubbing to the ruling Congress in the Kadapa by-elections, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy has set his eyes on Chittoor for his dharna, as he apparently looks at it as the “bull's eye” in his political scheme of things, for a variety of reasons.
First, it is the home district of his two arch rivals -- Chief Minister N. Kirankumar Reddy and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu -- and as such he obviously believes that a massive dharna in the home district of his two bitter critics would definitely deliver him the desired political mileage besides causing a serious political discomfiture, especially to Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy. Another important reason for Jagan to zero in on Chittoor for his political show is the fact that, he enjoys a good clout and has a fairly good following here. Already four out of the seven Congress MLAs in the district led by Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, former Minister have raised an open banner of revolt against Kiran and were rarely seen at the programmes of the Chief Minister in the district. The other three rebel legislators are -- G. Kuthuhalamma former Deputy Speaker, Dr. Ravi and Shajahan.
Jagan also plans to to counter the Praja Rajyam chief and Tirupati MLA K. Chiranjeevi who is waiting to be absorbed into the Congress.
Further, his close aide B. Karunakar Reddy, former TTD Board chairman and a die-hard follower of YSR, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy also are from the district and would naturally help him notch up his anti-Congress campaign in the form of his ‘Collectorate Muttadi' slated for Monday. Disgruntled Congressmen like former MLA, Kalicherla Prabhakar Reddy are expected to join the YSR Congress.
