Now that as many as 15 Congress MLAs and two MPs have officially
joined the YSR Congress party plenary, the question is what the Congress
party would do now, at a time when the party is in deep turmoil over
the Telangana issue.
These MLAs and MPs must have taken the membership in the YSR
Congress; otherwise, they would not be eligible to be on the dais on the
plenary and be part of the discussions on various issues and
resolutions on them.
So, for all practical purposes, they have dumped the Congress and joined YSR Congress party.
Morally, these leaders would have to quit the Congress before taking
membership in the YSR Congress. But they have not done on the pretext
that they were all elected because of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Now, the
ball is in the Congress court. Since they have openly jumped into the
rival party, the Congress has to take disciplinary action by expelling
them from the party.
The point is whether the Congress can dare do it at this juncture,
when as many as 43 MLAs from Telangana region have already submitted
their resignations and might insist on their acceptance. Similarly at
the Centre, the party has already lost nine MPs, though they are
technically still continuing. If the party expels or disqualifies 15
MLAs and two MPs, it will face serious troubles both in the state and
the centre. And if it does not do it, it will lose its credibility!
